Dear Readers,

The leading indicators have almost all completely given the green light – the global economy is picking up pace once again: We welcome 2014 full of optimism with wind in our sails, CLARK Europe GmbH is heading into new territory in the 1st quarter. With the acquisition of the new headquarters in Duisburg, we are providing the CLARK sales network of over 170 dealers with the assurance that CLARK shall stand by their side as a strong partner for the long term. In addition the new European headquarters opens up every opportunity for powerful growth. The site provides the optimum requirements for R&D, workshop service, equipment / spare part stocking and training. We will even be developing a CKD production line. The invitation stands: Let us write the next chapter of CLARK’s success story together in 2014.

CLARK continues to grow: New products - new plants

Vision from tradition

110 years from entrepreneur to cult brand. The company which operated in Buchanan (Michigan) under the name Celfor Tool Company in 1903 was once again the driving force of global materials handling technology in 2013: CLARK “The Forklift“ continues to attack. 

CLARK has been achieving milestones for ten years under the aegis of the South Korean parent company Young An. The family enterprise, headed by Chairman Sung Hak Baik, has established sustainability as a guideline for business in all Group segments and invests millions of Dollars in research and development together with the expansion of production capacities each year. The forklift and warehouse technology product range has been consistently extended – the infrastructural expansion around the globe is most impressive. For example Mexico: Production in the CLARK plant in San Luis Potosi started excellently in 2012. This third volume plant in the CLARK network manufactures for the entire American market. Burden Carrier production at the Lexington site (USA) is also setting new standards. This CLARK range of passenger transport and electric commercial vehicles opens up completely new fields of application and sales. Initial orders in the Middle East have already been received. The boom segment in warehousing technology is currently recording increased demand. New products are already in the pipeline. The relocation of CLARK Europe GmbH to the new headquarters in Duisburg in February 2014 is being eagerly awaited. The new European headquarters offers the opportunity for CKD production of electric forklifts. The advantage: CLARK Europe will significantly intensify the R&D work for products that are specially tailored to the needs of the European market.

100 percent AC technology: Electric forklifts GEX at automotive supplier Nedschroef

Green logistics newly defined

A more defined ecological profile is also a competitive factor in the Danish business – another reason why automotive supplier Nedschroef Langeskov ApS switched from conventional LPG forklifts to CLARK electric 4-wheel forklifts GEX 18 (1.8t load capacity) and GEX 30 (3.0t) on the recommendation of TotalTruck A/S.

Nedschroef Langeskov ApS produces around 500 billion nuts (M5 - M16) annually. The substitution of all forklifts in the company by 100 percent AC technology in the four new CLARK electric forklifts of the GEX series signifies Green logistics in every way. Production runs in several shifts over 19 hours daily. The modern CLARK 4-wheel forklifts with electric drive are a fixed component of the workflow. On the one hand, with zero exhaust emissions, low noise level and minimised vibration, they satisfy the guidelines for protecting the environment and staff. On the other hand, the four models of the GEX series also lower the total cost of ownership and do this with increased productivity. All four machines are equipped with a lateral battery replacement system including replacement batteries. In combination with the additionally ordered electric low-lift trucks and the electric battery replacement system, the battery can be replaced in just a few minutes.
 The electric forklifts also have a Triplex mast for lifting procedures over a height of 5 metres. The mounted camera with monitor also secures handling of loads at great height.

Itella logistics Oy relies on CLARK

Green wave in Finland

Finland’s newest logistics centre in Pennala is setting standards: Being as big as ten football pitches, the logistics centre run by Itella Logistics Oy has over 80,000 pallet storage spaces, eight kilometres of shelves for small products and 62 loading ramps.

On the 77,000 m2 area, three combustion engine CLARK forklifts perform their internal and external duties: Two C55sD (5.5-tonne load capacity) and a C30D (3-tonne load capacity) from the premium series GEN2 with a diesel particle filter, PIN code access and other practicable options have been made fit for use in hard materials handling in the far north. The machines placed on the market by the CLARK dealer CE Rental in Pennala are used internally and externally as all-rounders for heavy duty applications (metal parts) – e.g. for storage and loading and unloading of lorries. The installation of a diesel particle filter of the company “YTMIndustrial” is also a customerspecific adaptation. The core of both C55sD vehicles is a Kubota V3800T engine (92 PS / 2,400 revolutions) and a 3.3L Yanmar diesel engine (60 PS / 2,300 revolutions) for the C30D. The company in Pennala is also gaining in productivity and planning security due to the installed PIN code access – with this, only employees with the PIN code have access to the vehicle. A striking additional feature of both C55sD is the prong adjustment unit. The transport of goods with various load dimensions at a fork arm length of 2,350 mm is therefore flexible.

On the cutting edge: The spare parts service from CLARK

Always first choice

At the CLARK headquarters in Mülheim an der Ruhr, all operative and administrative ends of the spare parts business are being met. Here, more than 170 CLARK dealers from Europe, Africa and the Middle East can find the right spare parts solution in the central spare parts warehouse.

“Along with a well-equipped range of spare parts, it is important to have an energetic team. They must be able to provide first class service with a high level of competence and quality”, says Markus Jöckel (Director Sales & Distribution). The requests of the dealers range from diverse standard orders to requests for spare parts for machines that are older than 50 years. The exotic materials in particular “are an exciting challenge”, says Klaus Mainka (Technical Support). He is responsible for the technical support and is pleased to have a software such as PartsPRO PLUS, which is in many respects market-leading in the identification of spare parts.
The fact that the requests reach the spare parts management in various languages does not pose a problem to the staff. With German, English, French, Italian, Dutch, Spanish and Portuguese, seven languages are covered without a problem. “Good service is not dependent on good language skills alone“, reports Katty Ramirez (Customer Service), who may herself be able to speak five languages fluently, but whose primary focus is on friendliness and responsiveness. Concise: A reminder is often sent within a few hours. “Here I must appeal slightly to the patience of our dealers, however”, says Francesco Pusceddu (Customer Service), specialist for processing export orders in view of the elaborate procedure: Procurement of original certificates, creation of export declarations, time differences, sending of bonding letters, air or sea freight, night dispatch etc. require time. Especially given the following: “The process is only just completed when the goods are with the customer.” It is therefore indispensable that certain spare parts are in stock at the dealer “in order to be able to react on the same day if necessary”, advises Carlo Borrelli (Technical Support). He is responsible for the internal warehousing and devises recommended parts lists for the dealers.
The purchasing, which also holds to a key position, is not to be forgotten. With Martina Eggemann (Buyer) and Elke Krieger (Senior Buyer), the spare parts department has two members of staff with longstanding experience and excellent expertise. The numerous contacts for the various suppliers are the basis for the entire product range. Training sessions or even in-house seminars are also provided at the dealers on-site. “The advantage of this is that you can reach many more staff within a short period of time”, says the CLARK head of training, Andy Baldy (Parts Sales Manager). He also offers analyses in which product groups or commercial processes can be evaluated from business administration perspectives.
Markus Jöckel: “Finally, there are several small gearwheels which must interlock to ensure smooth processing.”

PartsPro Plus

More than one million CLARK forklifts have been produced worldwide and documented in the PartsPRO Plus program from construction year 1962 onwards. Furthermore, PartsPro Plus contains information such as countless wiring and hydraulic diagrams, service and workshop books, maintenance and training documents as well as technical data sheets (TI) and service information (SI). Johannes Menzel (IT Support) provides assistance in the setup and application here: “Proper installation as well as an initial introduction to our extensive tools such as PartsPRO Plus, the online shop and the online catalogue are absolutely essential.”

Welcome to the CeMAT 2014

The world’s leading trade fair of intralogistics will take place from 19th – 23rd May 2014 in Hanover.

Five clearly structured technology areas (Pick & Pack, Move & Lift, Store & Load, Logistics IT, Manage & Service) and special events give plenty of room for the trade fair motto “Smart – Integrated – Efficient”. In the interview, Rolf Eiten, Director Sales & Marketing, comments on the latest CLARK appearance at the CeMAT 2014.

 The motto of the CeMAT 2014 is “Smart – Integrated – Efficient”. How compatible is the slogan with CLARK?
 Rolf Eiten: It is basically made for us. Firstly because CLARK leads under the price-performance ratio aspect. The best value award speaks a clear language in this. Secondly because we provide solutions in the forklift segment and in warehousing technology which make practice-oriented operation possible in the first place.
 
 CLARK met the demands of the market at the CeMAT in 2011. What can we expect in 2014?
 Rolf Eiten: Our electronic equipment will again be the central focus in 2014, since we see the future quite clearly here. Another focus will be on warehousing technology and our new passenger transport and commercial vehicles. Finally, we will present some improvements to our previous forklifts such as new engines and options. We also have the CLARK app as an information platform for machines, technical data, dealers, company history and more.
 
 Whoever walks up to the stand at the CeMAT 2014 is pretty much “on stock”.
 Rolf Eiten: That’s correct. The stand concept emphasizes new, fresh features according to the motto “Right in the middle instead of just there”. Let yourself be surprised.
 
 On the other hand, the fact that you will enter hall 26 from now on is not a surprise. What advantages does this have?
 Rolf Eiten: With almost 1,000 m2, this means a significantly larger stand area than before, a brighter hall with abundant daylight, a higher visitor frequency and the direct connection to the outside area. On the CLARK stand, we will emphasize several features related to the sectors: Forklifts, warehousing technology, spare parts, CLARK worldwide and sustainability.

CLARK award delights logistics student

Meeting point - trade fair Berlin. Student Sabrina Barenthin received the first prize of the CLARK competition at the beginning of August 2013. At the transport logistic in 2013 in Munich, “The Forklift” had awarded an iPad Retina, which CLARK dealer Michael Flötgen, Managing Director of Logistik Pool GmbH (CLARK Berlin-Brandenburg) presented to the young lady in Berlin. The smart iPad with WiFi functionality and 16 GB memory is exactly the right thing for Sabrina Barenthin. She is currently completing her studies in business administration at the Berlin School of Economics and Law, focusing on shipping, transport and logistics. Conceived as a dual study with practical and theory parts, she only recently began a practical module at DB Schenker in the Berlin trade fair.

Children, children: In 2013, CLARK supported social projects from Mülheim to Africa

Active responsibility

A long with the daily business and the associated fight for market shares, CLARK also supports selected social facilities. From the beginning, this commitment is one of the declared ethical company goals. This is how CLARK Europe advanced to an esteemed sponsoring partner again in 2013.

The highlight of the charity year 2013 was surely the summer festival at the beginning of July 2013 at the headquarters of CLARK Europe GmbH in Mülheim. At the family festival with a children’s olympics, CLARK’s “Social Task Force” raised a respectable sum, which benefited Badilika e.V. The organisation is initiating and organising educational projects in Kenya. Katrin Czimczik (CLARK Marketing): “Personal contact with aid organisations ensures 100 percent that every cent gets to the children in need.”
After the great success of the market stand in 2012 at the Christmas market in Mülheim, CLARK is also relying on assistance on site at the future company site. With their own stand, the Clarkians were present at the Christmas market in Duisburg-Homberg at the beginning of December 2013. This was very much to the delight of the St. Johannes parish, to whom CLARK is ceding the revenues as a donation. The parish is using the money to finance a holiday camp on the North Sea island of Ameland for children from poor backgrounds.
From social to sport sponsoring: The E-Youth of “SV Arminia Kapellen-Hamb e.V“ has taken to the field in the trendy CLARK strip since the 2013/2014 season. CLARK has hence opened a new chapter of important youth and sport promotion (football, handball, volleyball etc.), which includes jersey donations.
Egon Strehl, Managing Director of CLARK Europe GmbH, already announced that CLARK will also support further projects and organisations in a targeted manner in 2014. “We have deeply rooted the support of disadvantaged and above all young people in our company philosophy, and hence we also continue to support good, sensible projects.“

Marcin Proszowski
With Marcin Proszowski, Clark Europe GmbH was able to gain a designated industry and market expert as a Regional Dealer Manager in Eastern Europe. “Material Handling“ is Marcin Proszowski’s line of expertise: For over twelve years, he was working in various important positions at Toyota Material Handling Polska and dealt with national marketing strategies, business strategies and local sales strategies among other things. As the CLARK Regional Dealer Manager for Eastern Europe (Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania), Marcin Proszowski is active in the fields of dealer support and market development. He will carry out his tasks from the Poland site. This is in the immediate vicinity of dealers and customers.

Francesca Bendixen
CLARK Europe GmbH continues to carry out its duty as a training company. Francesca Bendixen began training to become a wholesale and external trade saleswoman in the late summer of 2013 at the head office Mülheim an der Ruhr. The 19-yearold is bringing along good requirements for successful activity at CLARK Europe GmbH: The focuses of the successfully completed A-level exam were economics and administration. Francesca Bendixen also speaks three languages fluently: German, Italian and English.

260 requests for new CLARK offer

Prototypes present in Dubai

If the hotel industry of the MEA region (Middle East / Africa) meets, then this is annually at the “Dubai Hotel Show” at the World Trade Centre, Dubai.

At the 14th edition of the trade fair at the end of September, CLARK dealer Swaidan Trading Co. put the new CLARK range of passenger transport and electric commercial vehicles into the spotlight of the trade public. Swaidan Trading counted 260 concrete prospects after three trade fair days.
The market launch proved to be a full success. The “prototypes” in the CLARK range received lots of praise, above all due to the slim design and excellent features. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is an excellent springboard for the sales launch of the passenger transport and electric commercial vehicles in the MEA region. As one of the most popular tourist destinations of the area, the tourism sector generated around 7.5 billion USD in the UAE in 2016. For the year 2020, an annual influx of around 20 million tourists is expected. The UAE is also a key trading hub of the Middle East: In light of growing infrastructure with new shopping centres and expansion projects at harbours and airports, CLARK is right on target with its range of commercial vehicles, forklifts and warehousing technology for short distance transport.
The fact the Swaidan Trading registered 260 requests can be fully recognised as a great success. The competition is tough and was also present on site: 560 exhibitors presented innovations for the hotel industry and leisure time to 16,750 visitors.

New CLARK dealer: Willing Hebetechnik GmbH

Success story from the Lower Rhine

This is real entrepreneurship: In the adverse market environment of the recession years 2008/2009, Thomas Willing – a new CLARK dealer since 2013 – established his company for materials handling technology in Kevelaer- Winnekendonk. Thanks to new customers, new staff and new opportunities, the business is now flourishing.

Willing Hebetechnik GmbH is well positioned as a one-man business not even five years after its establishment: The company employs nine staff and the business has already expanded. The core competency of the team run by managing Director Thomas Willing is the lifting technology, forklifts in particular. “With CLARK as a strong partner in the area of industrial trucks, we are able to offer solutions specially tailored to the business”, say sources from the Lower Rhine company. Willing Hebetechnik provides repairs, sales, maintenance, leasing and spare parts service of forklifts of all types in the service sector. UVV inspection or driver training are also on the programme for the customers from horticulture and farming, for example.
The younger the company, the more modern the equipment in the company is: The latest diagnostic technology for forklifts is also present in the service vehicles such as several common spare parts.
The organic growth of the company is impressive: After launching in 2008, Thomas Willing gained so many customers by 2009 that, along with the change of name to a GmbH, the reconstruction of company buildings and the employment of new staff was due in 2010. The business years 2011 and 2012 also showed progress with a new offer (used machines), recruitment and new customers. In 2013, Willing Hebetechnik opened up another support office (storage / spare parts) with 500 m2 of working space.

Order Picking with the COP 20 ac

Onwards and upwards

The R&D department has achieved a lot here: The electric battery-powered vertical order picker COP 20 ac – now in production – impresses with 100 % AC technology, a new drawbar and a rounded chassis.

Along with the order picking, the COP 20 ac can take on transport duties in internal logistics and the transport of several loads at the same time. The vertical order picker is designed (drive motor: 2.6 kW / hydraulic motor: 2 kW), for loads of up to 2,000 kg; the maximum travel speed is 13 km/h. The order picking options in the first and second shelf levels enable flexible use. If order picking is still standard in the first shelf level, CLARK provides two optional variants of the platform order picking.
The folding platform step with a maximum order picking height of 2,100 mm is designed for occasional use. The lifting driver platform in the COP 20-M enables order picking up to a height of 2,800 mm.

All services in one place

Bigger, more functional, more compact: With the relocation from Gersthofen to the new company head office in the Bavarian Derching (4,000 m2 of working space), CLARK dealer Hofner Hebetechnik wrote a new chapter of its ten-year company history. Owner Pius Hofner: “Now we can finally bring together sales, the customer service centre and the repair workshop in one place.” Administrative and training rooms are also housed in the approximately 1,000 m2 newly built hall. Hofner Hebetechnik currently employs twelve specialists. Along with the sales and service of CLARK forklifts among other things, Hofner also has side forklifts, warehousing technology and cranes in its portfolio.

CRT 16-20 SE ac

Maximum comfort

New features for the electric reach truck CRT 16-20 SE ac from CLARK : The electric machine is presented with a higher seat position, easy to raise thanks to a lower step and flexible driver seat adjustment.

In total, this accelerates the comfort and productivity of the warehousing technology machine with super-elastic tyres. A seat position increased by 90 mm to 1,450 mm gives the operator more freedom of movement and a better allround vision. The newly designed step also makes is easy to raise the seat and to exit the vehicle. The Grammer driver seat can now also be adjusted in an optimum way thanks to the front /rear, weight and backrest adjustment. 
 Operation is made even more comfortable thanks to the small hand wheel,the lumbar support and – optionally – the adjustable armrest as well as the integrated seatbelt.
