EDITORIAL

Dear reader,

The order books are full to the brim across the industry, the recovery is noticeable. However, the burden of CO2 emissions and the high cost of fossil fuels like oil or gas are an unpleasant reminder of how fragile things can be. That’s where our product offensive with new electric machines comes in. Just in time for CeMAT 2011 in Hanover (Clark: Hall 25 / Stand G20), we shall present a whole series of extremely efficient electric models for your intralogistics according to the motto “Clark’s e-volution for a greener world”. The electric forklift GEX 40-50 with pneumatic or super-elastic tyres is set to make its debut performance. With load capacities of 4, 4.5 and 5 tonnes, the 80 Volt four-wheel forklift represents a worthy extension to the successful GEX series. The conceptual design stands out with two drive motors and100 percent AC technology and maintenance-free oilimmersed multiple-disc brakes. Another newcomer in the exhibition package is the electric tow tractor CTX 40/70. The pedestrian electric pallet truck PX 20 and pedestrian electric highlift truck SX 12/16 are also some of the latest, energy-efficient developments from the Clark stable. In combination with the diesel and LPG forklifts C 40-55s of the premium series Gen2, Clark is all set for an exciting trade fair exhibition from the 2nd to 6th May 2011 – including astonishing campaigns and attractions. We’re looking forward to your visit.

Egon Strehl

World tour 2011:
Hanover – Chicago – São Paulo – Leipzig

Clark on tour

Flying the flag with “e-volution” – a whole series of new models and an attractive supporting programme in the trade fair package. Ideally prepared, Clark is presenting itself as a pioneer in the field of electrical technology at the CeMAT 2011 in Hanover (2nd to 6th of May 2011). Clark Europe GmbH will present a product range that is bigger than ever before on its newly designed stand covering a total of 650 m2 exhibition space in Hall 25 / Stand G20 and further Clark area outdoors. Yet “The Forklift” has already conquered the trade fair world before the CeMAT.

ProMat in Chicago
The ProMat draws experts from the fields of production, sales and supply chains primarily from the USA, Canada and Mexico to Chicago (Illinois). The most important exhibition event for materials handling and logistics in the USA once again attracted tens of thousands at the end of March 2011, to learn the latest about logistics equipment, systems and technology and to experience all this at first hand. With a local presence offering promising new products: the Clark Material Handling Company on its 300 m2 stand. In total, 700 companies exhibited on around 28,000 m2 of exhibition space.

CeMAT SOUTH AMERICA
The intralogistics fair CeMAT SOUTH AMERICA celebrated a stunning premiere at the beginning of April 2011 in São Paulo. Represented with its own exhibition stand in both the indoor (400 m2) and outdoor area (600 m2), Clark was able to score highly in the Centro de Exposicoes Imigrantes. Prospective buyers from the petroleum and natural gas industry, the construction industry, environmental technology, cosmetics, medical technology and the automobile industry showed keen interest in the Clark machines in the booming nation that is Brazil. The trade fair covered all areas of intralogistics, from materials handling and warehousing technology through to packaging and order-picking systems, transportation technology, systems and software for intralogistics.

Intec in Leipzig
Showcasing in Leipzig: 20,800 trade visitors from 22 countries and 1345 exhibiting companies meant a record result for the mechanical engineering and production trade fair intec and the European supplier trade fair Z. Clark-dealer Tecklenborg (Döbeln) was also represented with its own stand in the Leipzig exhibition halls at the beginning of March 2011. The exhibition team of five headed by Managing Director Steffen Koßmann signalled special interest in the Clark electric machines. Moreover, new contacts with machine tool companies and vehicle suppliers in the region point to positive business after the trade fair.

New factory in Mexico

Clark is currently building a new factory in the middle of Mexico. “The Forklift” aims to launch production as early as the first quarter of 2012, with a capacity of up to 6000 units a year. The location of the new plant for electric, diesel and LPG forklifts is strategically a clever choice: From the industrial park “Tres Naciones“ in San Luis Potosi, you can reach both domestic buyers as well as the North American and Latin American market relatively quickly and cost effectively.

Start-up in St. Petersburg

The new Clark dealer ST Feniks is a high-flier from Saint Petersburg

ST Feniks is one of the most successful young companies in the Russian Baltic metropolis Saint Petersburg. The company, only founded three years ago, currently employs 43 staff, 21 of them technicians.

Flying high with excellent training
All these individuals have outstanding training and have gained a wide range of knowledge through experience, particularly in the forklift segment.
Background: The majority of the employees were employed at a major manufacturer of materials handling vehicles before joining ST Feniks. This applies to both the Sales department and in the Technology and Service area.

“Cooperation with the
multinational company Clark” The Managing Director Mikhail Litovkin has got more than a few plans for the coming months: “We’re delighted by the cooperation with the international company Clark. With the innovative products from Clark and our know-how, we can really achieve something in our region.” All this sounds like a successful partnership.

4. Trade Press Days at Clark Europe GmbH

Examined closer

A good two dozen journalists from Germany, Great Britain, Italy and the Netherlands followed the invitation by Clark Europe GmbH and came to Mülheim an der Ruhr for the 4th European Press Days. Key issues: What does Clark have in the product pipeline? How was the year 2010? What are Clark’s expectations for 2011?

Positive balance 2010 – Trends in 2011
Managing Director Egon Strehl looked back at an encouraging financial year 2010, which gave Clark Europe GmbH over 50% growth in sales, and approx. 36% growth in turnover compared to the previous year, including an improved profit before tax. “We’ve compensated well for the crisis in 2009 and are looking toward the coming year with great confidence, a year where we expect to enjoy growth in a similar magnitude”, remarked Strehl. He communicated this assessment along with the Korean CEO S.S. Baik, who greeted all with a video message. “We’ve won market shares in 2010. We want to do the same in 2011. The cornerstone of our growth”, states Strehl, “will continue to be Clark’s outstanding innovative flair in the warehousing technology segment of the forklift market.”

New dealers – new employees
“We were able to extend our dealer network by 20 to 140 Clark dealers in a total of 47 countries this year”, remarks Sales & Marketing Director Rolf Eiten, “we shall carry on along this path in the coming year as well.” In parallel, the number of technical training courses for dealers and their service staff has been stepped up. In 2011, the number of training courses both in Mülheim and at the dealers locally will be increased further. And not forgetting, Clark recruited ten new staff in 2010.

Even more traction force in 2011
4 or 7 tonne towing capacity and “built to last” design distinguish the new electric tractor CTX 40/70 from Clark. Graduate engineer Andreas Krause, Technical Director at Clark Europe GmbH: “Our CTX series with its ergonomic driver’s cab, versatile stowage areas and AC technology with 48-Volt motor is just as efficient as it is effective.”

Torchlight procession in Duisburg
The evening was marked by a visit to the Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord, a former Thyssen smelting plant that was transformed into a park for recreation and education after being shut down in 1985. As part of a two-hour tour with torches for each visitor , a former employee of the plant explained and reconstructed the industrial systems. The evening was rounded off in the “Hauptschalthaus”, the enjoyable catering outlet of the Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord.

Clark still on the up

The Forklift“ recently came in fifth in the image ranking of the VerkehrsRundschau.

Red carpet treatment for “The Forklift“ during the VerkehrsRundschau Gala at the end of February 2011 in the Munich Allianz Arena. When bestowing the image awards, Clark came a perfectly respectful fifth place in the area “Warehousing + Goods Handling” and “Materials Handling Vehicles”.

Survey by TNS Emnid
The image awards are based on a representative questionnaire by the market research institute TNS Emnid on behalf of the VerkehrsRundschau regarding the image of the leading brands. 200 decision-makers for materials handling vehicles in trade and industry as well as in the logistics service sector were first asked the question as to how important the image of a product is in the decision to buy it: 90% answered with yes.

High among the competition
The most important forklift brands in Germany were surveyed in the category “Materials Handling Vehicles”: Clark was able to secure a remarkable success coming in at fifth place. Our competitors – among them Mitsubishi, Hyster, Nissan, Yale Material Handling, Crown and Hyundai – had to be satisfied with places behind Clark.

“A good name in the market”
“This confirms our view that Clark has a good reputation in the market”, is how Egon Strehl, Managing Director of Clark Europe GmbH, commented on the result. At the end of 2008 Clark had already celebrated a small sensation: After a survey among 1300 logistics decision-makers, Clark came in number one in the category price-performance ratio.

People and markets

Back to Suomi - CE Rental boosts Clark presence in Scandinavia

With the company CE Rental, Clark Europe has welcomed a new strong Finnish dealer. Founded in 1995 as a service provider in the area of leasing for its sister company MATENKO, CE Rental very soon developed a great deal of its own momentum. The company located in the southwest of the country has specialised in the segments materials handling vehicles and construction machinery, which its imports, sells or leases out. CE Rental has a tightly meshed network of sellers and representatives throughout Finland. Managing Director Juha Niemelä is just as optimistic as Marketing Manager Chao Wang. Niemelä: “Clark was not in the market for a long time in Finland. Nevertheless, the forklifts have a good reputation. Clark still has a tremendous name here. We want to and will make the most of that.” As Cho Wang adds: “We’re going to stage something like a resurrection. Our competition is tough, but there are good arguments in favour of Clark. We’re going to communicate these.”

CeMAT Special 2011

Clark Balloon

3000 cubic metres of Clark power will be a guest at the Hanover trade fair grounds between the 2nd and 6th May. The Clark balloon – from Balloon Club Mülheim an der Ruhr – has been touring across the continent for three years now and has been in on the action at several international balloon festivals. And what is more: After the premiere in 2008, it will now also be a star of the show on the outdoor grounds at the CeMAT 2011.

Clark Innovations

A dazzling display of green Clark innovations will also be presented at the CeMAT 2011: Clark will unveil the GEX 40-50, an 80-Volt four-wheel forklift with load capacities of 4 and 5 tonnes. Yet more contenders are set to catch the public’s gaze: the electric towtractor CTX 40/70 with 4 and 7 towing capacity, the new diesel and LPG forklift C 40-55 of the premium series Gen2 (load capacities 4 – 5.5 tonnes), the electric pedestrian pallet truck PX 20 and the electric pedestrian electric high-lift truck SX 12/16, all developed and manufactured by Clark.

Clark Song

Clark’s media presence continues to gain contour: At the stand party (Hall 25, Stand G20) on Tuesday, 3rd May 2011, a live band will perform the new Clark song for the first time. The first live performance of the “Lift me up” song recorded on CD should help to lift the mood as well. This at the Clark stand where logistics experts from all over the world, Clark sales managers, representatives from the headquarters, the affiliated companies, partners and friends of the company traditionally meet up.

Clark App

Now also via iPad and iPhone – the new Clark app will be making its debut appearance at the CeMAT 2011. With the Clark app, almost everything can be called up in German and English on the Apple top sellers iPad and iPhone: company outlines of Clark and Young An, products with databases, the Clark corporate video, dealer locations etc. To top things off, a movement-sensitive Clark forklift game is also available.

Clark Marilyn

When she posed on a Clark forklift, greeting her fans alluringly back in the 1950s, one thing was clear: Marilyn Monroe will become the “advertising” icon of Clark. Ever since that sensational photo shoot, Beauty and “The Forklift” have formed an enticing entity. To keep up the tradition, the Marilyn double, Scarlett, who has been playing the role since 2008, will again be setting the mood each day at the Clark stand – ensuring that many people can leave with an attractive souvenir photo of their visit to CeMAT 2011.

Clark Bratwurst

“Bon appetit!“ Clark Bratwursts on Clark serviettes and a sparkly apple-grapefruit drink will be served during the CeMAT 2011 from the snack stand at the Hermes Tower. Clark will raffle off 200 vouchers each day for the substantial snack at Stand E01 in the outdoor area. An epicurean delight will await Bratwurst lovers when it comes to the dressing: mustard in Clark’s original hot-yellow green successfully complements the small meal.

CeMAT 2011: Sustainability in Intralogistics

The Clark electro-evolution

The motto of the CeMAT 2011 “Sustainability in Intralogistics“ is more current than ever. Ecological sustainability is of paramount importance. Rising energy and raw material prices also represent a special challenge for companies against the backdrop of the current climate debate. Clark’s response to this at the CeMAT 2011 is the only correct one: As a pioneer in electric technology, “The Forklift” will present a wide range of extremely robust electric machines with emission-free operation, high battery capacity and rapid battery charging.

Mission with priority
Egon Strehl, Managing Director Clark Europe GmbH, is pursing a clear vision: “Our planet needs to be less polluted. The key issue of CO2 emissions is not only obvious to us, it is also something that we are working to reduce – on a global basis.” Not least because of this, Clark was one of the first providers to use AC technology as standard in 1998. With its three- and four-wheel forklifts with 48V and 80V electric motors, the company now already fulfils a range of logistics requirements in the 1.6 to 5 tonne load class ranges with electric forklifts.

Development potential
Andreas Krause, Development Engineer at Clark Europe GmbH: “We’re right at the heart of the matter and we’ve achieved a great deal. At present, I still see potential regarding fuel consumption and emission performance that we want to and will utilise – cost neutrally for our customers, of course”. At the same time, Clark benefits from the close link to the South Korean parent company, the Young An conglomerate. Studies into synergy effects are currently underway in the Daewoo bus division of Young An. City buses in particular have to deal with short distances and regular stopping and starting. Krause: “The challenge: How can this energy be stored effectively and used again?”

Considerable cost benefits
Owing to the different requirements for forklifts when used on site, Clark will leave its options open in future and develop and offer both electric machines as well as diesel and LPG forklifts. Rolf Eiten, Director Sales & Marketing at Clark Europe GmbH, nevertheless sees the electric motor as the forklift drive of the present and future: “Besides positive effects on the environment, the intelligent use of the electric drive concept for forklifts also gives customers significant cost benefits. The reason: AC technology is not only clean, but in view of skyrocketing oil and gas prices, it is becoming ever more cost effective, while also providing cost benefits in the area of maintenance”.

Clark presents the new four-wheel electric forklift GEX 40-50k

World premiere at the CeMAT

Clark is entering a new load class for its electric-powered equipment with the GEX 40-50 with pneumatic or super-elastic rubber tyres. This 80V four-wheel forklift with its 4, 4.5 and 5 tonne load capacities represents a significant complement to the successful GEX range (1.6 - 5 tonnes).

Electric forklift GEX 40-50
The conceptual design of the GEX, which features two drive motors, 100 percent AC technology and maintenance-free oil-immersed disk brakes, is identical to Clark’s industry-proven three- and fourwheel models in the 48 and 80 Volt segment. Even these are regarded as guarantees for excellent performance, optimal manoeuvrability and secure load handling. The experts will be introduced to the new Clark forklift for loading and unloading, warehouse work, production applications and tasks in the recycling sector at the CeMAT 2011.

Electric towtractor CTX 40/70
New advance into transport logistics: With the electric towtractor CTX40/70, Clark will be setting the pace in internal goods transport. Prominent features of the electric tractor are proven 48-Volt AC technology, an ergonomic driver’s cab with large stowage compartments as well as ingenious means of ensuring the safety of man, machine and material. The maximum transport speed of the CTX model with 4 tonne towing capacity (CTX40) is 9 km/h with a full trailer load and 13 km/h without a load. The 7 tonne CTX70 can reach 7 km/h with a full trailer load and 17 km/h without a load.

Electric pedestrian high-lift truck SX 12/16 and Pedestrian electric pallet truck PX 20
From standard use in the supermarket through to high-performance operation in production and warehousing: An effective and reasonably priced solution for stacking products in sales or storerooms and production halls is offered by Clark with the new electric pallet truck PX 20 and the pedestrian electric highlift truck SX 12/16. The electric pedestrian pallet truck PX 20 has been developed with a load capacity of 2.0 tonnes by the global Clark Development Team, while the pedestrian electric high-lift truck SX 12/16 comes with load capacities of 1.2 and 1.6 tonnes and a maximum lifting height of 5.2 metres.

Diesel and LPG forklift C 40-55s
The new diesel and LPG forklift C40- 55s of the premium series Gen2 (load capacity 4 – 5.5 tonnes) is used in warehousing, loading and unloading vehicles, production, recycling etc. The heart of the diesel variant is a Kubota V3800T engine (92 HP / 2400 revolutions). In the LPG gas-propelled C40-55, the GM V6 (4.3 litres displacement) ensure an extremely high level of power. Standard and Triplex masts up to 7 meters are available. Super-elastic tyres are optionally available. Clark offers a lifting frame damping as standard for lifting and lowering.

Manz Automation AG opts for Clark

“Green future”

„Welcome to Manz – the green future begins here.” These were the words the Chairman of the Board of Manz Automation AG, Dieter Manz, used to welcome the German Chancellor Angela Merkel and the Premier of Baden-Württemberg Stefan Mappus during their visit in Reutlingen.

The company Manz is one of the world’s leading technology providers of production systems for the photovoltaic industry (solar modules), the flat-panel display industry (flat screens) and lithium-ion battery production. With a supply share of around 70 %, German mechanical engineering has positioned itself as a technological leader in the international photovoltaic market – such innovative companies as Manz Automation AG enjoy a large percentage of this.
We can assume that Dieter Manz was not referring directly to the brand new Clark forklift during his speech about the “green future”. Yet the latest recruit to Manz fits the company’s activity sphere not only on account of its colour.
“The Clark GEX 30 is regarded as one of the most advanced machines in the area of electric forklifts. Clark has consistently put resource saving and the efficient consumption of energy into practice here. For the operator, that is reflected in low operating costs and an extremely positive total cost of ownership (TCO)”, states Heinz Lamparter of Hald & Grunewald GmbH.
Manz has been working with Clark forklifts from Hald & Grunewald since 2005 – “Despite our penchant for innovative products, a reliable service partner was of paramount importance for us” comments Fleet Manager Kurt Briem. “With Hald & Grunewald, we found this partner several years ago.”

Forklift Facts and Figures

Did You Know ...

... that all important locking nuts and bolts on Clark forklifts are of a plated design?

Wheel studs and nuts for example. Meaning they need less torque for tightening and loosening. So what! This means that they will not seize and will easily be released when necessary without the use of applied heat or power wrenches.

Benefit: Low maintenance costs and long service life.

„Oldie but Goldie“

In continuous service since 1972

Almost 40 years of the toughest work and yet not the slightest sign of fatigue. A Clark forklift TW22 has been in service in the Production of the Czech tyre manufacturer MITAS a.s. since 1972 – unceasingly so. Founded in 1933 by Michelin, MITAS today produces a wide spectrum of “offroad tyres” at four locations, especially tyres for agricultural and all-terrain vehicles, construction machinery, motorcycles, forklifts, light trucks and some aircraft. The 1972 model from Clark is used in the North Moravian MITAS plant Otrokovice for loading and unloading raw materials and materials serving for production. The work here is carried out in four shifts – non-stop. The annual material throughput is around 60,000 tonnes. Of course, MITAS well appreciates the reliability and sturdiness of the Clark oldie, in just the same way as the 15 other Clark electric forklifts that are in service for unloading and distribution in the two-storey production halls. There’s no question about it: For MITAS there is no alternative to the Clark forklifts in the area of materials handling vehicles. The fleet of Clark machines is set to be extended once again by the end of 2012.

23 Clark forklifts in service in Russia’s largest seaport Novorossiysk

“The Forklift” on the Black Sea

The Black Sea port of Novorossiysk is currently one of the most exciting logistics locations in the world. Russia’s largest seaport handling 74 millions tonnes of freight (2005) represents a maritime hub for the growing goods flowing between Europe and Asia.

In the middle of things instead of just on the sidelines: 23 Clark forklifts with load capacities between 2.5 and 7 tonnes. The operator Noworossijskij Morskoi Torgowy Port (NMTP) 2007 launched an investment offensive with a program earmarked to span five years and amounting to 700 million US dollars. The declared goal: New terminals, roads and rail connections, cranes and warehouses coupled with state-of-the-art harbour systems – including the 23 Clark forklifts – aim to boost the cargo transhipment to over 100 million tonnes a year. Although freight such as petroleum and oil products are the most important product group to be loaded and transhipped, other products passing through the port include chemicals, grain, sugar, iron ore, cast iron and scrap metal, cement, non-ferrous metals, black metals, timber and containers. Development of the container terminal, where the 23 Clark forklifts are currently in service, is particularly important for the port. The extension called for: a high degree of automation, the effective use of storage space, good control and monitoring and the reduction of unproductive activities to a minimum. Just the right requirements profile for the agile Clark fleet in Novorossiysk, which is incidentally only 200 kilometres away from the Olympia site Sochi. As Elena Kossareva from the Moscow Clark dealer POLUS corroborates: “The most important advantages of the Clark forklifts come to the fore here: their ergonomic design and robust construction for applications calling for the highest performance.”

Major order from the Sugarloaf Mountain – 500 Clark forklifts for VW do Brasil

São Paulo is regarded as the motor of the Brazilian economy. VW do Brasil has a production location in the megacity – the fleet of materials handling vehicles already consists in large part of Clark forklifts. Around 160 machines, including LPG and electric vehicles, are in service in the Anchieta plant. Clark dealer AESA has obviously convinced VW do Brasil just as effectively as the Clark forklifts themselves: the entire forklift fleet – 500 vehicles in total – will gradually be converted to Clark forklifts. Amongst other things, VW also wants to order electric towtractors of the new CTX 40/70 series. “Good news” for the Clark staff who paid the plant a visit locally: after a warm welcome, Clark Europe Managing Director Egon Strehl, JS Baik, CEO of the YoungAn Group, SS Baik, CEO Clark Material Handl.
International, and Euclides Azenhar, CEO Clark Brazil, were able to see the outstanding performance of the Clark forklifts and the excellence of the Volkswagens produced in the Anchieta plant.
